Tiny Tweaks, Monumental Change: Why Small Habits Make Great Leaders

Hello, fellow leaders! Layci here.

I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting lately, especially as we transition from 2025 into 2026, and I want to share my biggest revelation from the past year. It's not about some grand, sweeping strategy; it’s about the tiny habits that secretly dictate our leadership quality and, frankly, our sanity.

On the latest "Confessions of a Terrible Leader" episode, I got super candid about my own struggle with something we all do: the phone-in-bed routine. That small habit of scrolling right before sleep and immediately upon waking? It was my biggest misstep of 2025. It quietly eroded my mental health and productivity before I even poured my first cup of coffee.

The Power of Intentional Routines for Leaders

The truth is, as leaders, our personal energy management is paramount. You can’t pour from an empty or chaotic cup. What I learned is that embracing intentionality in small, daily routines is the real game-changer. My pivot involved implementing simple tools, like time blocking, to protect my most valuable resource: focused time.

If you’re feeling the pressure of information overload, you're not alone. The modern world is a constant deluge, and setting boundaries—physical boundaries, like keeping the phone out of the bedroom, and digital boundaries—is crucial for mental well-being.

As we kick off this new year, I encourage you to reflect on your own small habits. Which one is holding you back? Which small tweak could create a monumental shift in your leadership?
