The biggest leak in your funnel might be confusion. Not bad traffic, not bad leads, just bad transitions. When Layci asked where businesses usually screw this up, Warren Miles-Pickup did not hesitate. They do not create a clear path. The customer finishes one step and has no idea what to do next. No follow-up. No invitation. No obvious next move. So even after you have earned trust, momentum dies. That is such an important leadership lesson. We are often so close to our offer that we assume the path is obvious. But obvious to us is not the same as obvious to the buyer. Warren’s recommendation was practical: map the whole journey visually. Draw the staircase. Identify every handoff. Make the next step impossible to miss. Simple, but not easy. 🎙️ This conversation on Confessions of a Terrible Leader is packed with practical insight for founders trying to grow without wasting effort. Do not pour gas on an offer that is not proven. That is not scaling, that is just spending faster. One of the smartest reminders from Warren Miles-Pickup: before you spend real money on marketing and sales, make sure you have a product people have already told you they want. Not a guess. Not a hopeful assumption. A proven offer that solves a real problem for a specific person. Too many businesses try to solve a growth problem with more promotion, when the real issue is that the offer is not clear enough yet. Layci owned this part of the conversation in such a real way. She named what a lot of founders experience, spending money too early, out of order, or before the business is truly ready. That honesty made this episode hit harder. Because the lesson is simple: validate first, amplify second. 🎙️ Warren joined Confessions of a Terrible Leader to talk about where founders waste money, and how to avoid it. Marketing gets attention. Sales gets the decision. We mash those two together all the time, but Warren Miles-Pickup explained the difference in a way that makes it click. Marketing is the moment someone realizes your brand exists. It creates awareness, interest, and curiosity. Sales is what happens next. It is the process that turns interest into action. If your business is getting attention but not conversions, that distinction matters. Because the problem might not be that people are not finding you. The problem might be that once they do, they have no clear next step. That is where so many companies get stuck. They invest in visibility, but they have not built the trust, sequence, or structure that helps people actually move. Layci Nelson pulled this apart beautifully in her conversation with Warren on Confessions of a Terrible Leader. 🎧 If you lead a business and your marketing feels busy but not effective, this episode is worth your time. Passion can get you started. It will not build your funnel for you. One of the sharpest moments in this conversation was hearing @Warren Miles-Pickup say what a lot of founders need to hear: you can DIY your sales and marketing, but that does not mean you will get the same conversion. A lot of businesses grow because the founder believes deeply in the work. That belief matters. But belief alone does not create a clear path from, “I saw your content,” to, “I trust you enough to buy.” That is the real challenge. When growth stalls, it is often not because the product is bad. It is because the path is broken, unclear, or missing entirely. Layci Nelson asks the question so many business owners are quietly asking: when do you stop trying to figure it all out yourself? Usually, right around the moment you realize passion is carrying too much of the load. 🎙️ Warren Miles-Pickup joined Confessions of a Terrible Leader to break this down.
